Amazon.com essential recording
Despite denied claims that it's about marijuana, "Puff the Magic Dragon" now ranks as one of the finest children's songs in musical history. It's sung around campfires and in nursery schools to this very day (while still occasionally taking a tug at adults' heartstrings as well). So, it only made sense when Peter, Paul & Mary released this "kiddies" LP in 1969, beginning a trend they've returned to throughout their career. Mary Travers had indeed recently become a "mommy," and the trio celebrate here not only with a new version of their classic tune and the traditional "Mockingbird," but clever children's songs from the likes of Tom Paxton, Gilbert & Sullivan, and Shel Silverstein. --Bill Holdship

4 out of 5 stars Great for Kids and Adults   August 2, 2010
John W. Van Hoven
Bought this album to help entertain a 2 year old and a 4 year old on a long car trip. It worked and it is not unpleasant for the older folks either. I was 13 when Puff the Majic Dragon first came out and it is great to see that my 4 year old loves it also. He also just absolutely loves "Rain Rain Go Away." It is proof that kids will enjoy good music from the past and don't need to be solely bombarded with the nonsense that is out there today. It is apparent in this album that PPM actually liked and cared for kids.

5 out of 5 stars Harmonies for little ones   July 16, 2010
Claire C. Collins (New York, NY)
Great songs are enjoyable at any age -- I love singing along with P,P&M on these kid-friendly songs! And, of course, it's Peter, Paul, and Mary, so you know they're sung well. "Christmas Dinner" still moves me to tears.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointed with the seller   July 16, 2010

I paid extra for expedited shipping because I was sending it to my son who was out o the state for only 2 weeks. The email said it would be there too late for him to even get it. I emailed the seller to ask why the shipping was going to take so long but never got a response. I would never use this seller again.

5 out of 5 stars Music for the whole family   July 10, 2010

So I loved these songs as a kid and still like them now as an adult. I plan to buy this cd for my children and recommend them highly. Most music for kids isn't music I want to listen to myself so I can't see putting myself in a position to have to play it for hours on a long car trip or learn the lyrics to sing along. I have no such qualms about Peter Paul and Mommy. While I don't like all the songs, none of them are annoying and some are truly lovely, sweetly melodic examples of the human voice blended in warm harmony.

5 out of 5 stars seller review   February 11, 2010

The cd was delivered within 2 days and appeared to be totally original, i.e. it had the original shrink wrap with the seals and imprinted edge w/ the cd title, etc. Great value
