Product Description The albums have been re-mastered by a dedicated team of engineers at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London. The result of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the catalogue has seen since its original release.
Amazon.com The Beatles Mono Box Set was compiled as a special interest package for the hard-core fan. It presents the first ten albums in re-mastered mono (the final 3 albums made their debuts in stereo only), and a double album of singles and EPs, called "Mono Masters". At the time of writing, the mono albums are not available individually. Why would anyone want a newly minted mono collection? The final mono songs were sometimes different. Stereo mixes were usually done days, if not weeks after the original mono mix, and could include different takes when the engineers made the overdubs. Stereo mixes, particularly for the first five albums, did not include as much critical listening from George Martin, and almost none from the Fab' Four. Also, stereo in early 60's England was not broadcast over the air, and the format was largely the preserve of the hi-fi snob. For more than half The Beatles recorded repertoire, the most affordable "weapon of choice" for the twisting, shouting teenage market was the mono mix. Ironically - this box set is the best The Beatles have ever sounded. Like the stereo sibling these are re-mastered, not re-mixed, but unlike the stereo, they have not been clipped or limited to push levels closer to current music ingested through our MP3 players. These albums are cleaner than ever before and compared to the 1980s CD editions you're taken aback by how much dynamic range is on those original tapes. Nothing in this box sounds like a 45 year old recording. Each disc is presented as if it were a miniature "33", replete with plastic anti-scratch sleeve, inner paper sleeve, original album cover, inserts and all original text rendered frustratingly small for anyone old enough to have bought the LPs the first time around. -- Hugo Munday

Watch Out For Bootlegs July 16, 2010 Daniel A. Guarino (New York) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was very pleased to find the Beatles remastered mono box set at such a reasonable price. Well, if it sounds too good to be true...
Fresh out of the shipping packaging, they were clearly cheap (very cheap) bootlegs. The CD jackets featured very poorly printed photos and were crudely folded and glued together. In fact they mostly stuck to each other and the flimsy plastic inner sleeves. Pretty tatty- even by bootleg standards. Oh, and the enclosed booklet is in Japanese. And The box was dented. Needless to say I contacted the seller (twice)---and heard nothing. Still I am happy to report the recordings on the discs are the real deal and sound >incredible<. A real ear opener. At least in that I feel I got what I wanted for the money. But if you're thinking about getting this terrific package, spend the bucks, pounds, euros, whatever, buy from a reputable known source, get the whole package and >fully< enjoy the real thing.
The Beatles July 9, 2010 José Ignacio Errázuriz Cruz 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This box set is expensive but is so good it really does not matter. If looks could kill this box set would do in seconds, is so beautiful, is so well done, the replicas of vinyl are a very good job. Anyway, the important thing here is the music and generally The Beatles in mono, with some exceptions, are better. Albums like Rubber Soul and Revolver sounds really good, no more weird separations, no more excessive reverb on vocals that use to make songs like Drive my car sounds too old. Now the songs sound like really good rock&roll. If you are wondering about this box set, don't be shy, just buy it.
The Beatles Mono Box Set July 7, 2010 Norbie (Oz) Great Package.
However, not as "limited" as it makes out to be.
Best Beatles Song Collection Since Love! July 5, 2010 MusicGuy9 The Beatles 09 Remastered Mono Audio Set has really made a difference in the way we listen to them. The Beatles were the biggest thing since Elvis Presley, you have to be a complete idiot not to love them. There are many things that make the remastered mono set a collectable. One being the music itself, another is the way is was designed, it made me feel like I was really in the 60's. Finally the sound. Hearing the sound of th remastered Beatle albums really makes you feel like your in the studio with the band, it's just indescibable. The only thing that made me upset was the price, I mean come The Beatles are suppose to be for everyone. I highly recomend this to any Beatle maniac!
Learning To Listen All Over Again June 26, 2010 DGS (PA-United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
When I was just 9 years old and bought my first Beatles album I had a Westinghouse record player, mono stylus & a 5-inch speaker. The spindle could hold five records and after one finished playing the next one would drop down, you know, fully automatic.
I played by records and loved it. Soon my parents bought a "stereo" console record player. I learned that if you turned the balance all the way to one side on Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, the harpsichord vanished & you heard just the bass & an interesting guitar on the chorus.
Time marches to the CD era and the Beatles were new again with no pops or scratches-perfect sound forever (almost).
During this transformation with the media used to convey the music, the playback system I had always was improving. Up to the point that today, I have a playback system with incredible detail, soundstage attributes and spectacular sonics. I am not bragging, but the point is that the Beatles in Mono sound much, much different on this system than the old Westinghouse record player.
When the "Love" DVD audio, 5.1 mix was released, I could not believe the Beatles sounded this good.
Now in Mono a 180-degree change, mixed by the Fab Four themselves, I cannot believe how good the Beatles sound AGAIN.
I thought I knew how the Mono set would sound, flat & lifeless. I was wrong. A very different experience, and highly recommended.
PS: Beware of the discounted box sets. I bought from Amazon to get the real thing, not a cheap counterfeit set.
