Album Description There is no harmony like brotherly harmony. Something indelible in the weave of voices and play of sensibilities is stamped into the fraternal DNA and also stems from a lifetime of shared experiences. You can hear it in classic brother acts across the musical spectrum, from the Louvin Brothers to the Everly Brothers and on down the decades through the Wilson brothers (Beach Boys), the Davies brothers (Kinks), the Allman Brothers and even the Brothers Gibb (a.k.a., the Bee Gees). You can clearly hear fraternal magic at work in the songs of Scott and Seth Avett, better known as the Avett Brothers, as well. That magic is abundantly evident on I and Love and You, the Avett Brothers' big-label debut, produced by Rick Rubin. Its 13 songs are delivered in a style that defies pigeonholing but might be described as a rootsy amalgam of folk, country, bluegrass, rock and pop - even a jab of punk-style dynamics here and there. With I and Love and You, The Avett Brothers have taken a giant step forward.
Album Description I and Love and You is The Avett Brothers' major label debut, produced by Grammy-award winning producer Rick Rubin. The album tracks are diverse and unique, ranging from striking ballads to energetic romps. With over 195k independently released albums scanned, and the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Emotionalism, I & Love & You is sure to be embraced as a new favorite by longtime and newfound fans alike. The Avett Brothers have built up an impressive and loyal fan base with constant touring. This prolific band is renowned for their high-energy live shows and incredible mix of eclectic musical styles. The Avett Brothers' fan base continues to grow in markets all around the country, capturing the hearts of all who are lucky enough to experience their music live.

THANKS AMAZON, MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE WITHOUT EQUAL July 27, 2010 milo mccowan (KANAB, UTAH) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
OK, I admit that for the first time ever I actually clicked on one of the Amazon recommendations for artists while buying Monsters of Folk. The short previews were enough to convince me to buy the "I and Love and You" CD. What a great investment and what superb music. Look at the other reviews to see what people think they sound like, I say just buy the CD and enjoy. These guys are talent unleashed and in this newest release they were joined by the incredible Rick Rubin as producer. Rubin has influenced so much of the music we love that he has become part of us.
Some time back I rated the top three albums of 2009 as Andrew Bird [Armchair Apocrypha], M Ward [Hold Time] and Monters of Folk's self titled release in a 3 way tie. That tie is now a 4 way "Best of 2009" with the addition of this great Avett Brothers CD.
This CD has become our family favorite and we were lucky enough to see the brothers live this July in Wisconsin. What a performance. 2 hours with a croud standing on their feet worshiping each and every word and note. Scott and Seth's on stage energy was beyond description leaving the crowd exhausted and deeper in love with the dynamic music.
Buy the CD, go to the show near you, and have these guys add a new depth of musical appreciation to your lives.
A New Favorite July 23, 2010 Simon 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I saw these guys in concert recently, without really knowing any of their music, and they instantly became one of my favorite bands. I can't get enough of this CD in particular.
Have the Avett brothers sold out... July 20, 2010 M. Willden (North Salt Lake, UT United States) I was introduced to the Avett Brothers by my fiance through this album initially, and why i liked certain songs, especially the first two tracks, I thought it was your basic weepy college idie folk rock group. It took me a while to break down and listen to older albums, then i got my hands on their brilliant album Mignonette, and could not believe it was the same band, then listened to Four Thieves Gone and liked that as much or almost better!! Brilliant banjo playing mixture of old rootsy bluegrass and modern folk, and punk rock. Where did the rootsy distinctive old school agressive drunken american sound go?? Hardly any banjo, this sounds like they lost their uniqueness. now they are just an emo band with a college indie folk rock sound... There are alot of groups that do this type of music, and they do it better. Where is the edge like tracks such as Talk on Indolence, and where is the true american classic feel of Swept Away, my favorite song which played at our wedding by the way.
There is nothing groundbreaking here, instead Rick Rubin stripped them of their creativity and originality and turned them into something more radio friendly.
Hope they go back to their roots on their next effort. For true fans of this band listen to their first 4 albums and live albums, Emotionalism has it's moments but is overly sentimental and the gleam albums are a bit too stripped down for my tastes, but with this album the college indie kids and weepie girls guess you got your new favorite band. Guess i will have to stick to the Low Anthem for true rootsy americana.
"Life is change - see the rocks how they sit" July 18, 2010 Ivan (Hollywood Florida) Usually, when an album gets a lot of five star reviews and a few one stars it's because the CD was loose in the jewel case, or they got a Jeff Beck CD instead of a Beck CD or some other really off the wall reason but that's not the case here - the negative ratings of this CD are generally from folks who really like the "traditional" Avett Brothers but dislike this new version so it's interesting to note that the title track is about the growing distance between the brothers and their fans.
With their earlier works, their was an intimacy that made the songs sound like old friends at once, song's that were reminiscent of sitting around a campfire at the beach, passing a bottle and whatever else someone happened to have.
These songs, produced by the legendary Rick Rubin, are much more polished and that takes some getting use to but change is not necessarily a bad thing. This by far is the bands most successful album (all the way to the top 20 in the rock charts) and now they can even play in front of four or five thousand people on occasion. I find all the beauty and emotion of their earlier works on this set and I hope once it gets broken in it will stand up their earlier works. The brothers have the potential to be around for a long, long time and this means they will continue to experiment and evolve and grow and I'm look forward to seeing their future offerings. Remember that life is change.
To Avett Brother fans that gave this low ratings, can you name me ten albums recorded in 2010 that you like more than this because I would like to check them out.
found my album of the year July 18, 2010 Eric Elizondo (TEXAS) Found these guys at ACL and heard IandLoveandYOU and went to buy it the very next day. It is simply the best CD ive heard in a LONG TIME! From top to bottom the tracks take you through a journey making me wonder where this band has been prior. A MUST BUY.
