Product Description CLOCKING IN AT NEARLY FIVE AND A HALF HOURS, LED ZEPPELIN DVD HAS BEEN CULLED FROM THE FEW PERFORMANCES WHICH WERE EVER FILMED DURING THE BAND'S LIFETIME: LONDON'S ROYAL ALBERT HALL IN JANUARY 1970, LONDON'S EARL COURT IN MAY 1975 AND ENGLAND'S KNEBWORTH FESTIVAL IN AUGUST 1979.
Amazon.com Exclamations of religious awe are in order. Legendary and long sought-after, this live Led Zeppelin collection is nothing less than the rock music equivalent of the Holy Grail. Quite simply, this is what all the fuss was about. Given that they were the biggest band in the world, Zeppelin were notoriously camera-shy in their heyday. Their official filmic legacy until now has been just the fascinating but flawed The Song Remains the Same. While this new set presents some previously unseen footage from the same 1973 Madison Square Garden gigs, its real wonders lie in the earlier (1970) Royal Albert Hall footage and the later Earls Court (1975) and Knebworth (1979) concerts. Everything here looks and sounds new-minted, thanks to painstaking restoration and remastering of both audio and visual sources, a Herculean labor of love on the part of co-producer Dick Carruthers working hand-in-glove with Jimmy Page. Trawling through thousands of yards of previously unseen film and unheard tape recordings--some with missing visuals, some with missing audio--Page and Carruthers have chosen only the best possible footage available. They were also at pains to make the segments segue seamlessly so that the viewer is treated to what feels like a continuous concert--just sample the transition from a grainy Super 8 "Immigrant Song" (Sydney, 1972) to "Black Dog" at MSG. Highlights? It's not hyperbole to say that every powerhouse minute of this collection (some 230 minutes of concert footage plus another hour and a half of extra DVD material) is a rare musical and visual treat. But hearing Page's violin bow work on "Dazed and Confused" in DTS or Dolby 5.1 is an experience not soon forgotten. --Mark Walker

10 Stars! July 6, 2010 skjohnstone 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This DVD is an absolute treasure. The camera work is as good as it gets for the era. The film editors just mostly stood back and let the band rip. So many times the cameraman and editors destroy awesome performances - not here. This is fabulous. Sure there are some cutaways (inserting other images/footage over the concert film) and extreme close-ups - but all of these are so brief and well-done they are not a problem at all. (We've all seen concert films ruined by overuse of these techniques.) The sound is excellent. I can't say enough about how great this DVD is so I'll just repeat: This DVD is an absolute treasure.
BTW, there are some drawn out improvisations, characteristic of the era. But if you're getting the opportunity to watch the greatest at work (Page or Bonham solos) just chill out and be thankful for the opportunity to watch greatness in action.
This makes the hairs on my legs stand on end! June 8, 2010 V. B. Rolfe (Philippines) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Along with the Complete Studio Recordings boxed set (CDs) that I bought a few months back, I decided to chuck in a couple of DVDs for the day that I might catch-up with the 21st century and actually get myself a DVD player!!
I was going to save the DVDs for that 'pie in the sky' wide screen that I may or never may get. Anyway, just the other day, finding myself with some time on my hands; I decided to give the Led Zeppelin DVD a spin. (Bad move... Well, not really a bad move - just bad timing. I decided to have a quick look at it on my desktop computer... Just before going to bed. To cut a long story short:)
1) I was completely blown away. (I should have known better after my experience with the "How the West Was Won" CD...)
2) I was up the whole night and I didn't even think about going to bed until way past the time when the sun started beating down on my tin roof!
3) I felt the need to burst into print with this because I have just been watching Jimmy Page's guitar solo in "White Summer," (Live at the Royal Albert Hall, London - 1970) - for about the 10th time already. At the end of the performance, I couldn't restrain myself from bursting into applause - (even though I live alone and only my dogs could have even heard it!) There were tears in my eyes - and I noticed that all the hairs on my ugly legs were standing-up on their ends!
There's also a lump in my throat, as I write this.
I can't say any more...

Nothing more need be said than that this shows you everything you need to know about the greatest band of the 70s. Riff upon riff. Bonzo never missed. Jimmy is beyond words. JP Jones is a behemoth and Robert Plant, or Percy as the band called him, had a voice from beyond. I especially enjoyed the acoustic performances, but everything here is essential. I only wish there was more.

Great video of LED ZEPP and I greatly enjoy the late drummer's mighty talent and stamina. I recommend it.Especially if you are a LED ZEPP freak as I am.
Nothing comes close... amazing audio and very competent video. April 28, 2010 Mauricio Ferrusca Ceja (Mexico) What can I say that hasn't been said already about this superb release? However, I do have some questions regarding the liveness of the performances. I have found a website detailing edits, song-part dates, etc. [...], but I still have to find information about when and how were the overdubs created. After several viewings, only very recently did I notice that there's a very clear bass guitar on Misty Mountain Hop, from MSG '73, and however talented JPJ is, I simply cannot believe that he was playing it with his feet while playing organ at the same time. Then there's Robert backing himself in Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, Earl's Court '75, and these are just a few of several.
I have nothing against this. Knowing how obsessive to detail Jimmy Page can get, I almost expected it and frankly, the result is really good, but I would like to have some information. When were this overdubs made? With dated material or new? Lifted from album outtakes or released tracks? The mind just boggles!!! If anyone has some information about this, please do share.
Thanx!
