3 out of 5 stars MMMM OK   July 1, 2010
Mad about SHOES! (Kentucky)
I can listen to half the songs on here. Maybe it is time to lay it down Jay Z and stick to the business side of things.

5 out of 5 stars Forward-Thinking Album from Jay Z   June 26, 2010
Jimmy (Orem, UT United States)
"It's all about progression." These are a few of the telling lyrics in the misunderstood masterpiece called "On to the Next One." Jay-Z is all about progression, as he should be. Some reviewers here have mentioned that Hov has evolved both as a human being and an artist. Very true. From his humble beginnings in the Marcy Projects (I'm from the Bronx-Mitchell Houses represent!) To gold Rolexes. To platinum records and Rolexes. The man is, on this album, detailing his progression. Not only that, but he's giving Hip-hop a blueprint for its survival. If Hip-hop is to survive in any meaningful way, it has to progress too. If it continues to use the old blueprint, it will continue its descent into irrelevance.

Some people reviewing here have mentioned that Hov's newest album is not authentic enough. I scoff at this. As a genuine artist, Jay Z is uniquely positioned to make true art. It so happens that his medium is Hip-hop. Moreover, the man has got more street cred than any of the people criticizing him for not being authentic enough (I challenge any of you to come up with a realer place then the Bed-Stuy of the 70's, 80's, and 90's-other than the Bronx of that same period that is.) Point is, Jay Z has the credentials to make real Hip-hop. He doesn't need the approval or permission of anybody to make real Hip-hop. Some of you have said that Raekwon's new "Cuban Linx" album is the standard to judge authentic Hip-hop by. While I love the Chef and the Wu, I must say that Jay-Z's album is superior.

In a nutshell, Jay-Z is making forward-thinking art. When artists create, much of what is created is misunderstood and panned. So, it would serve Hip-hop fans well if they got behind Jay Z and appreciated his vision instead of clinging to outdated notions of what Hip-hop should be.

5 out of 5 stars This one was for me!   June 10, 2010
Karin A. Sanfratello (Levittown, NY, US)
I came late onto the hip hop scene, and this CD blew me away. Jay-Z is amazing and everything I heard from this CD screamed "buy me" so I did. No regrets here. This man is a true artist. I know I can't even review this work correctly, just from the heart. I love it. Thank you!

5 out of 5 stars Great album   May 29, 2010
PAC MAN (NEW YORK)
I'm all for your own opinion, but anyone who say's this album is bad really is naive. This album is great. His last album I didn't care for much, but this is a return to form. I hesitated to get this for awhile but am happy I finally did. Every song is good straight through.(Just about)
