A Solid Album from a Soulful Sister July 14, 2010 Lon Brown (NC) Love the album!
Alicia Keys has always looked to push the envelope as an artist and she does her thing with The Element of Freedom. Mostly bought the CD for the song Empire State of Mind Pt. 2, which is a bit different from the Jay-Z version, a bit more powerful in my honest opinion. Not a bad buy.
This is the Unthinkable July 5, 2010 Jasmine 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Now I always loved Alcia Keys as an artist, butu really I never cared for her albums. With the exception of the album "As I am." The first single she had out, " Doesn't mean anything," I didn't care too much for either. But when I got the CD I could not stop listening to it. I seriously would listen to the whole CD over the course of the day everyday for three months.
My top five: This was a hard list to compose, because the CD was just overall great
1. Unthinkable: This without a doubt is the best song on the cd. It has a very low key meadow and the lyrics are like poetry. Just beatiful and it was written by Drake which makes it even better.
2. Sleeping with a Broken Heart: Also another great song on the album. It has a fast beat althogh the song is very sorrowful. I love the lyrics and the vocals are great.
3. That's how strong my love is: This song is a very pretty song. I love the lyrics expecially and I can greatly relate to this song so it makes me love it moreso.
4. Wait til they see my Smile. I do really love this song. The message that it sends is a great one. I listen to this song after a bad day and it does really help. A great motivation song.
5. This Bed. I love this song it has a fast beat and it is very catchy. I also think that this song is very cute.
Other favorites:
Distance and Time: Great lyrics and awesome vocals.
How it feels to fly: It took me a while to really like this song, but eventually it became very catchy to me and I love it.
Love is my disease: Had a hard time liking this song at first also.
Put it in a Love Song: Beyonce and Alicia Keys did a great job with this song. Very fastbeat and cathcy and very true.
Empire State of mind part II: I loved part one with Jay-Z but part two was better in my opinion. The vocals were great. The lyrics once again like poetry.
Love is like the sea: Very beautiful song
Songs that were ok:
Love is Blind: Kind of repeative bt other than that its ok.
Doesn't mean anything: Its a pretty song, but its too slow.
If you haven't listened to the CD yet then you are definetley missing out and need to get it right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some Strong Elements June 27, 2010 L. Stillwater (Florida) Element of Freedom is a very good album. The writing is good with simple hooks. What intrigues me about this album is the production. The production is reminiscent of the 80's. You can hear some old school synths, and some of these songs like "This Bed" sound straight from the 80's R&B stations. Songs like "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart" at times sounds like Prince with a a driven gated Genesis (Mama) drum machine. Some of these drum patterns songs have a very Prince 80's feel to it. "Wait Til' You See Me Smile" has Keyboard on it playing that brought me straight back to Hall & Oates. My point is that this album has a formula that has worked in the past, and of course with Alicia Keys singing on it it has a modern feel to it. Old and young can enjoy this album. It's a album you can play over and over, and each song is enjoyable. Give it a chance.
Good albums are hard to find... June 25, 2010 Black Dove (St. Louis, MO) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I rated this album with 5-stars simply because the music industry is producing a lot of mediocre albums. You might have one or two songs (three is pushing it) that you enjoy and the rest of the album sounds weak and thrown together. That is NOT the case here! I do not love every song, but since this album landed in my hands I listen to it everyday. Some of my favorites are: "Love Is My Disease," "This Bed," "Un-thinkable," and "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart." But the whole thing is pretty consistent. I do not think Alicia Keys has the best vocals out there, but she has definitely honed her skills and is a talented artist.
Alicia Keys - The element of freedom June 23, 2010 Stanislav Vysopal (Los Angeles) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
To me this album is more for Women that for men's ear. That's the reason why I didn't enjoy all the songs.
