Aaaangela is out there and performing March 16, 2009 E. Jordan (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) I saw Angela this past weekend at Blues Alley in DC. Her show, her music, her life's story, just reinforces what she committed to vinyl and CD in the late 80's and 90's. She's still got it at 54 years old (not looking a day over 35).....she's one of the best female vocalist of any genre hands down!
As the Amazon write-up says, Angela is extremely underrated, mainly because she was not only a singer, but composer, producer and overall just bit ahead of her times.
If you get the opportunity, see her live, then purchase the CD's....you'll have an appreciation that's brand new.
Keeps turning me on October 29, 2007 Glen Zimmerman (West Bumblefuch, USA) Over a decade after she began as one half of the talented but underappreciated duo Rene & Angela, Angela Winbush (born in 1954 in St Louis, Missouri) made this album that more than goes to show that she has matured into one of the great female personalities of smooth, adult-oriented R&B. Possessing a set of Mariah Carey-like pipes (or at least those of the pre-2000s Mariah Carey), Angela sings with as much intensity as any female R&B belter possibly can, and she is also a skilled producer who creates much of the lush background work in her songs herself. The whole album is of the higest and most pure quality; the best song in my opinion is "Keep Turning Me On" (hence the title of the review).
Too Good To Let Angela Go!!! July 11, 2007 C. Herron (Oklahoma) Here it is 2007 and I am still digging Angela Winbush. I once heard a saying "If you have not heard Angela Winbush; You must before you go to heaven!" There are no words to describe the beauty, talent and emotions this young lady put into her music. Although This is my favorite CD (TOO GOOD TO LET YOU GO); ALL her albums were underated HITS!!! Even the awesome producing Angela put into Isley Brothers 'SPEND THE NIGHT' CD was just awesome (it is also one of my most listened to CD's). There is no doubt Angela Winbush is the music industries hidden and most under rated artist. Too the music lovers if you are looking for excellent music and have not heard Angela, you need to check her out before you go to heaven. If you ever have an opportunity to see her in concert, GO!!! Brace yourself you will be blown away. Oklahoma Loves Angela Winbush...
Go Angela! November 8, 2006 island girl (Florida) I was introduced to some "real" music by my brother he skooled me to Angela Winbush, and it has been love since first listen.I also learned about Angela Bofill and Miki Howard, Maysa ,and Lalah Hathaway. If you didn't know , then you just got skooled!
Phenomenal album from Angela! February 7, 2005 Preston (nc) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Angela Winbush really sounds soulful on this album that came out in 1994. This album was really overlooked in '94, but it had hits like the funky bass-heavy Treat U Rite, which had Angela having her hip-hop thing going on! But it gets better as she does a wonderful remake of Marvin Gaye's Inner City Blues. Keep Turnin Me On is smooth sounding R&B at its best. Her duet with former husband Ron Isley is so silky smooth. The rest of the album is so top notch with Angela producing and playing the music on it. She's her own one woman thing on this album and she can write some dynamic songs! This is one of her best along with the '89 album. She is one of the best soul singers on the level of Aretha, Gladys, Patti and others!
